George "Buddy" Guy referred to himself as the "Caretaker of Blues". He has been making hits since the 1960's using what he learned from many different artists and adding to the lessons. He was born in Lettsworth, Louisiana on July 30, 1936. At 13 years of age, he made and played his own guitar. His influences growing up were TBone Walker, Lightnin' Slim and Lightnin' Hopkins. As he grew older he continued to learn from different blues artists and continued to grow and perfect his talent. Muddy Waters discovered Mr. Buddy Guy playing at a club in Chicago and helped him get a record deal with Cobra Records. When Cobra folded, he then followed Rush to Chess Records. In 1968, Buddy moved to Vanguard Records when he realized the rock blues scene was coming along. He made quite a few hit singles but grew dry in the '80s. Later he opened a blues club called Legends in Chicago. Many blues artists became a fan of his place. In 1990-91, he made a comeback when he joined Eric Clapton on stage at London's Royal Albert Hall. He wound up getting another recording contract but this time, it was with the Silverstone label. In 2003, Buddy's Album Damn Right, I've Got the Blues became a gold record. Since then, he has been making music and enjoying life.
